Temple Visit Dos and Don'ts

I will start the ball rolling with

1) when you are about to enter the temple grounds, or entrances of the shrine hall that has 3 openings, left, center, right, go in from the left of the temple, meaning, if you are in the temple facing outwards, the left.

Traditional Chinese thinking is that the left is the Dragon side, right is the Tiger side.

Never enter from the center because that is for the "holy beings" or the monks.

2) For the prayer cushion, don't pray at the center, take the left or right of it. It's not for us, it's for the monks conducting the prayer rituals.

I don't know why these are not really shared nowadays, so thought of sharing some of these. More to share in next few posts such as

1) rotating the charms we have around the incense burner 3 times clockwise
2) walking around holy objects/beings 3 times clockwise.
3) don't lean on pillars

My bad, got in must have got out. In from that one end, out from the other end, and for the above picture, the other side where there is no arrow indicated, which would be the right side of the temple (person standing in temple facing outwards of temple)

If you have your lucky charms such as amulets, bracelets, or even stuff that you want to energize, do swirl them above the incense burner clockwise 3 times. Do it at popular and yang (阳) deity-related incense burner.

PS: eg for students, they can swirl their pencil case, books above the incense burner 3 times, clockwise especially if that incense burner is for academic related Deity.
